THE WIDOWS is centered on Lily Ross’s quest to find out who murdered her husband, but is told from the point of view of two narrators. Lily’s sheriff husband Daniel is murdered in the line of duty. In her case, her husband’s tragic death is not so clear cut. Inspired by Maude’s story, my imagination sparked Lily Ross. ![]() How did you find the idea for THE WIDOWS?Īs I was planning a trip to visit our younger daughter for her birthday weekend at Ohio University, in Athens County, Ohio, I ran across a tourism website for Vinton County (just southwest of Athens County), which featured Maude Collins, Ohio’s true first female sheriff in 1925 after her husband was killed in the line of duty while writing a speeding ticket. ![]()
